That's the reason why I'm having a problem is with MT 2K23 career mode. I was ready to go in and get involved in games and was forced to talk with JJ Redick and Perkins or figure out how I could win over the city regardless of my performance on the court.I did not at all, but I was averaging around 70 points. I also was horrible in my debut game. Lakers Twitter would have absolutely killed me.
So I tried what Damian Lillard is too afraid to do, ran from the grind and employed VC to help me improve my game. It was a lot more fun to play games ....in-between playing Ronnie 2K and making raps to randoms.The integration of the city and career mode was a wonderful move, reducing the complexity of multiple modes as well as bringing an enjoyable open-world aspect to the game.
MyTEAM includes some updates, mainly in the new Clutch Time mode. It's like something in between the speed in Triple Threat mode and a full Domination game, for instance. It's a single quarter within an option game that has a 4 point line. Have I had to lose several games trying to shoot four-pointers? No comment.
For someone who is a fan of grinding through game modes MyTEAM always offers plenty of content in this regard. Two of their initial special cards include the 90-rated Pau Gasol and a rating of 93 for Lamar Odom, which seems like decisions that were made in order to draw Lakers fans to buy this game.The Jordan Challenges are another aspect that has been a part of the 2K franchise at times in the past, and is always fun to play. While I haven't gotten through all of them yet, there's a shot from Kobe Bryant and Jordan from their match-up in the late 1990s that is an interesting teaser.
In the end, both positive changes are a step in the right direction, however it's still a feeling that they're missing the point of what's important. While the storyline could have some fun moments when it comes to it's career-based mode, getting pushed into so many quests which aren't part of the game can be ineffective and frustrating to many, including myself sometimes. There are still aspects that are enjoyable to the gameplay, but there are still some stupid things that make no sense, and they hold the game back.
