3. Quest Rewards and Respec Points
Some story quests in Path of Exile offer free respec points as POE currency rewards, especially during your first run through the game.
Example: After finishing the Merciless difficulty, you’ll receive one free respec point, which can be used to adjust your Passive Skill Tree.
Note: These free respec points are rare, and you will mostly rely on Orbs of Regret for making changes.
4. The "Respec" Button in the Passive Skill Tree Window
After obtaining Orbs of Regret, simply open your Passive Skill Tree window (default hotkey P) and find the passive point you want to respec.
Right-click on the point you wish to remove, and it will consume an Orb of Regret to refund the point.
You can then place the refunded point into a new node of your choice.
Costs and Limits to Respec-ing
Cost per Point: Each time you use an Orb of Regret, it will refund one passive point. The more points you want to respec, the more Orbs of Regret you’ll need.
Higher Costs for Larger Respecs: While respec-ing a few points is relatively cheap, redoing large sections of the tree can be very expensive, especially in the late game.
Path of Building (PoB): To avoid excessive costs, players often use Path of Building (a third-party tool) to plan their builds in advance. This allows you to visualize your tree and experiment with different configurations before committing to a respec.
Limited Free Respecs: The game does give some free respec points for buy POE currency story progression and quest completions, but these are not enough to completely redo your build. You will need Orbs of Regret for most major changes.
